Originally built in 1910 by Howard Etchison, the Kalorama was named
for the Kalorama Estate just across the street, now Kalorama Park.
The residence was doubled in size only three years later after William
Pitt Kellogg, a former Senator, Representative and Louisiana Governor
purchased the structure. Adding such lavish ornamentation as stained
glass, wrought-iron railings and carved stone faces in the cornices.
The Great Depression forced developers to rescale each unit as
smaller, less luxurious living spaces, but only three years ago
the Kalorama revisited its golden age after an extensive renovation,
increasing each unit's size and once again capturing the original
luxury of the building.
